INURBA BV

INURBA is a spin-off of the Open Source House project. I still remember my very first conversation with Vincent van de Meulen, the idea owner of the Open Source House concept. After five minutes we decided to start the project and started a journey aimed to increase the quality of life of the millions of people that are making the transition from the lowest income groups living in slumps to lower middle class. It is a bumpy road but we are making progress every day!

INURBA aims to provide sustainable, affordable housing (EUR 10,000) to people in the lower middle income groups. The goal is to realise 100,000 OS houses before 2020.

INURBA emerged from the Open Source House competition where we mobilised 3100 architects within 4 months. The architects formed teams and have contributed with 250 high quality Open Source designs and grew to a community of over 4500 architects in just one year. In 2012 they merged with the Architecture in Development community . INURBA has started in Nicaragua with the construction of the first pilot of 255 houses.
