What happens if you step out of an airport, railway or bus station in India?
Everywhere you look the first thing you see are auto rickshaws, the second thing is a driver pulling your arm to offer you a ride. There are millions on the streets and they cause enormous pollution, resulting in all kind of health problems. During this trip together with a good Indian friend, Pradeep Esteves, we had many conversations with drivers. They told us their stories, amazing stories and we found out that they live at the bottom of the economic pyramid, earning 3-4 dollars a day, that they don’t have bank accounts because many banks don’t want to deal with them, and that they live in slumps and are facing many social problems.
At the end of that trip the idea was born to start to start a company Three Wheels United that is working in co-creation with the drivers on a solution to increase the quality of life of at least one million auto rickshaw drivers and their families and to create a positive ecological footprint. So together with Ramesh Prabhu and his team we did it.
